This is week I’m not just doing PT, I have been working with school nurses on a project on how to get over weight kids in to playing sport. We have been working on fun but active games and also how to get the parents involved with the kids training, it has been very fun but hard work. I will be travelling around South London giving talks and work shops on ways to get every kid in school playing sport and exercise, bit like Jamie Oliver in the gym.

For the best results compete with your clients, either who can do the most or who can do the most in a set time i.e. 1 minute, garenteed to get them to maximise their effort. Boxers have been skipping for centuries and they are extremely fit. Variation is the key, there are standard two foot jumps, where you do mini jumps with both feet off at the same time, alternate feet, where you kind of jog on the spot whilst skipping. Then high knee skips either both feet together or alternate legs, aiming to get your knees up towards your chest with each jump and many more. The secret is good rhythm with the rope, so consistent speed makes the whole thing easier. Good luck and enjoy. Let me know if you have any problems or questions.

My name is Linda, I’m a weighaholic. It’s been three days since I last weighed myself.

I had gotten into the habit of weighing and recording my weight daily, tracking in my food and fitness diary, and even tracking on an online site with all sorts of impressive graphs and statistics. I’m now under instructions from Michael to weigh just once a week. Somehow, Michael has even gotten to my husband who has hidden away my scales. It’s a conspiracy.

On Sunday, (the day after my official weigh-in day) the urge to weigh got the better of me.

“C’mon. I’ve been doing this weight loss thing my way. It helps me to weigh every day. What’s the harm if it helps? When have I ever allowed my daily weighing to derail or discourage me, huh?” I asked my husband, defiantly seeking access to the hidden scale.

“At least once a week.” He replied in the calm matter of fact way that makes it impossible to have an argument with him. What is the point of arguing with someone who stays calm and doesn’t get angry? No point.

Like a knock-out punch when you’re already going down, the memories of my regular moaning at fluctuating weights, lack of reduction on the scale especially after a very good day, the oh it could be just water retention, hormonal changes, perhaps I had more salt than usual, I worked out too hard (really), the daily analysis and of course the oh well, I won’t lose anything this week, I might as well have that, all came flooding back.

I knew I’d lost an argument. The scales stayed hidden.

I had another great session this morning with Michael. I love the fact that every time we work out, there is something new that uses previously undiscovered muscles. I feel like an excitable child but I am knackered. It is great to be knackered.

Time just seems to fly past and Michael drops the odd hint that my blogs are not up to date – here is my attempt to rectify that. Last week proved to be a good week and I felt I was back to my pre-injury fitness level. We had a great day Friday (which sometimes can be quite difficult if you wake up with that start of the weekend feeling). Quite a long run in the park with added exercises that I must say look a lot like a Monty Python funny walk sketch, or emulating that currently omni-present famous footballers exercise routine. But I enjoyed it and felt really good for it. So a real positive for my sessions last week !

The weekend proved to be quite wearing and did not feel at my best this morning. It was extremely cold but the sun was shining. Almost immediately my heart rate seemed quite high so we had to keep a very close check on that as I did not feel tip top anyway. We still managed a fairly good run and the heart rate seemed to return to its normal level. For the fourth or fifth time during the run Micheal asked for a reading which had indeed gone to my normal level – then I happened to look down and spotted a dead mouse at which time I gave a shriek as one does and clutched my hands to my chest, I hate mice! Micheal was not amused as he was so focused on my heart rate he thought I was in some sort of difficulty! For some reason Michael could not see the funny side? He had no time to stop even though I had a fit of the giggles, back to the house to finish off with some weights and fitness ball exercises. Another good session and 10/10 for amusement! Poor Michael think he drew the short straw with me.

OK, enough already with the preamble. Get on with it woman!

I weighed today and I’m a happy bunny. I’ve lost 1.2 kg, that is 2.64 lbs. I’m happy with that.

I’m not being a party pooper but of course the aim isn’t just losing weight in one random week, that’s the easy bit. The test is consistency, losing weight next week and the next and the next. But I can only take it one day at a time.

I run away with myself and I dream a little bit… If I can consistently lose 1 1/2 to 2 pounds every week, I will more than smash the 2 to 3 stone weight loss target I have set for August.

C’mon universe, that’s not too much to ask for, is it now?
