Tabata or Tabata Intervals are named after a Japanese scientist called Dr Izumi Tabata who published a study in 1996 comparing conventional aerobic exercise with High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). They consist of exercise intervals, based on his study, of 8 20 second all out sprints on a stationary cycle with a 10 second slow peddling rest in between.
